Telegram Messenger App Features - Explained !

Source: Ifttt

“What? Another messenger already! “ – This might be the question that came to your mind when you saw the title of this post and “Yes” is the obvious answer along with some neat tricks and tips that make this messenger stand out from the rest (WhatsApp, Line, Allo, etc). For those of you who haven’t heard of it, Telegram was found by two Russians (although the app has nothing to do with Russia) and the company is headquartered in Berlin. There are many reasons why people prefer Telegram over other messengers and the following 10 are some of them.

1. Inbuilt App-Lock

This is one feature that people use a lot with this messenger. It also has an “Auto-Lock” switch that can be set from 1 minute up to 5 hours duration. If the passcode lock for the app is enabled, then there is a switch called “Allow capture” which allows or prevents taking screenshots of the messenger app. Taking a screenshot of the app is not allowed by that switch when it turned on, regardless of whether the app is locked or unlocked during its use. When a message is received, while the app is locked, the preview of it is not shown on the lock screen and the status bar.

Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Passcode Lock

2. Edit Sent Messages

This is one of the most used features of Telegram messenger. As the name says, a message or text that is sent can be edited. Suppose you have sent a wrong text or a mistyped error, you can just click on the sent message and click edit. This allows you to rewrite the already sent message. Pretty cool isn’t it? This is definitely a life saver for many.

Click on message -> Click on Edit

3. Picture viewer trick & Image editor

When you’re viewing a picture that someone had sent, in the messenger, you can swipe up or swipe down to get back to the chat screen instead of pressing the back button. Swiping left or right will move to the next or previous picture by default, as in every messenger app. Attaching a picture by capturing an image with the camera, provides a few options to enhance the image, crop it or and add captions to it.

4. Regain Deleted Pictures

Let's say your friend has sent you a screenshot of an important information you needed. While viewing it in the gallery app, you delete it accidentally and now you’re in a situation where your friend cannot send you the image again, but you need it quickly. Well, Telegram has you covered. You can regain the deleted picture by downloading it again from the conversation between you and your friend in this messenger. But this only works if the picture is deleted from your phone storage and not from the conversation.

Go to the Profile of the person -> Shared Media -> Look for the picture (or) Scroll through the chat

5. Send Any File Up to 1.5 GB

Telegram lets you send or attach any file you want. Be it, a PDF, an audio, a video, a program (.exe file), zip files, apk’s, etc. You can send almost any file, up to a size of 1.5 GB, which is more than sufficient majority of the time.

6. Chat with yourself

You might wonder what’s the point in chatting with yourself. The reason behind self-chat is that it can be used as a “cloud”. You can upload or attach the files you need in the self-chat and then access it later when it is needed. For instance, screenshots, text documents, little files that we might need at times can be uploaded to the self-chat, which behaves like a cloud.

Swipe from Left -> Click your DP (or) Scroll through the contacts and click your contact

7. Cross-platform Access

Telegram has stand-alone versions across platforms. It just needs a phone number to start an account and not a mobile phone in itself. A new account can be opened through a smartphone, a web-browser and a desktop application. These three are independent applications and do not require active sessions on your mobile phone as WhatsApp does, which is pretty useful.

8. Themes & Theme Editor

This is one of the favorite features of Telegram for many. You can customize almost every element in the UI. There is a theme channel which, when joined, provides you with a set of themes to be applied. You can either edit these themes once applied or can even build one from the scratch and set the whole app to your liking.

Settings -> Theme

9. Super Group

The Groups in Telegram are unique. There are two different groups - Normal and Super Groups. The normal groups contain a group limit of 200 and they don’t contain any pinned posts. A normal group can be converted to a super group, which has a group limit of 5000, an upgrade from the already present limit of 1000. The supergroup can also have posts pinned, which is quite useful. Also, any new member who joins a supergroup will be able to view the history of the group messages, which is a most welcome feature that helps them understand what is going on in the group.

10. Messages Text Size and Bots

This is a neat little option that allows you to set the required size of text characters in the chat. Telegram chats never require any backup, since they are stored in the cloud, encrypted. But it doesn’t store messages that you delete. Bots are automated programs that contain pre-defined answers for pre-defined questions. They’re programmed for various works and can be found in the bot store of Telegram.

 Extras.

Telegram recently brought the “Voice call” feature. It also has the ability to provide you with a link based on your username that can be shared with anyone who wants to chat with you, instead of your phone number. The phone number is hidden even after the person chats with you through the link until you make it visible to them. You also have the option to turn off “Message preview” from the notification settings. Secret chats are also a unique feature of Telegram. They have a specified time limit for the chat, after which they get deleted automatically.

So, stop waiting and get the app installed. Enjoy the features of this awesome messenger app. You will find yourself getting back to this app after trying this out. It provides a whole new messenger experience and is sure to surprise you in lots of ways. Get surprised!

Triple Talaq - What is it? and Why is it being emphasized upon?

Image Source: DNAIndia The "Triple Talaq" is an impotant topic discussed in India media currently. This post is aimed to explain what it means and why is it being emphasized upon, in a simple way. What is Triple Talaq?  The word "Talaq" is Arabic meaning "to divorce". Hence, triple talaq essentially means uttering the word talaq, thrice, by the husband to his wife. This is an Islamic based means of divorce and is banned in Muslim-majority countries such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. How does it work? As per the Koran(Quran), only after four serious attempts at reconciliation, is a Muslim husband permitted to utter the first divorce, which is followed by a three-month waiting period called iddah. If the couple resolve their marital dispute within this period, then the divorce gets cancelled, resuming the old life. During this three-month period, the second talaq can be uttered as well. If even after iddah, the couple do not...
